Fuel Price Fallacies

Don’t people understand anything about economics? It is all about supply and demand. The world appetite for oil has dramatically increased (China and India especially). The oil companies do not, I repeat, do not set oil prices.

Oil is a commodity bought and sold globally by investors, which dictates the prices you pay at the pump. To have the government interfere, other than state and federal government reducing gas taxes, is ludicrous to even suggest and, more important, is a move toward socialism at the expense of free enterprise. If we wish to truly impact the cost of oil and fuel, we will allow for drilling in the Gulf Of Mexico and Anwar, while building new refineries along the cost. This will increase the domestic supply of Oil and thereby drive down the cost to US  consumers. Further, by allowing for Wind Turbines to be built off the US Coast and building Nuclear Power Plants, we will further affect the energy market by reducing the demand for fossil based fuels.

So instead of crying foul and blaming the Oil industry, how about we stop listening to whining liberals and wacko environmentalists and start investing in expanding current and future energy technologies within our own borders.

We should all be grateful to Al Gore for his work on carbon offsets, making it possible for him to fly in jet planes to faraway places without contributing to global warming. Since we have carbon offsets that are helpful in preventing man-made global warming, why can’t we have “fat offsets” to help control man-made human fat? Overweight persons could purchase the offsets from someone who’s skinny and then be able to go to the fast-food places without guilt! A database could be constructed on the Internet from which people could buy and sell offsets. A whole new economy could be opened up!

The purchase of the offsets could be taxed and the taxes would go to help the schools. Even kids in school could buy and sell offsets, thus learning the basics of the financial system. This opens up whole new areas for offsets: A burglar could purchase “honesty offsets” and not go to jail. A drunken driver could purchase “sober offsets” and keep driving. The list goes on and on.

Thanks again, Al, for making life simpler through offsets.

The Fear Of God

How do liberals define inhumane treatment? Waterboarding, sleep deprivation, etc.? Showing your enemy that no matter how many living heads they saw off, no matter how many innocent adults and children are used and are victims of suicide bombings, etc., they get respect and a slap on the hand? Do liberals ever wonder why the Islamists never attack China? Remember how the Russians handled their one terrorist event? It’s not with compassion. It’s instilling the fear of God and to hell with the rules if you dare attack us!

That’s what deters these psychopaths, not cookies and milk.

How deluded must the president be to insinuate that the war in Iraq has been good for America? The original estimate of the cost of the war was $50 billion, which would be underwritten by the sale of Iraqi oil. Well, at the end of the fifth year, the government has already spent $522 billion, and it is predicted by Nobel Price-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz that wecould spend $3 trillion on this mistaken war. Of course we have no many to rebuild New Orleans, expand SCHIP or invest in infrastructure and technology here at home. Way to go, President Doofus…..
